Pregnancy With a doula

When I was a young woman and pregnant for the first time, I often looked to my own mother for advice. Many times she was unavailable or could not recall the answers to the questions I had. Looking back I realize now, that the times had changed so much from her generation to mine, that it was difficult for her to relate to my modern experience as a pregnant woman. This left her feeling inadequate at times as she did her best to navigate the many changes birthing had gone through.

Currently, in my Doula practice working with new mother’s and their families is one of my most favorite aspects of being a Doula. I love being experienced in the most current and up to date information in the birthing world. In this information age women are so easily overwhelmed when looking online for answers to questions and concerns that arise during their pregnancies. When families have their Doula to turn to, not only do they receive the most current information, they receive a loving support, that can give real human feedback and encouragement. It makes a world of difference to have a supportive Doula as part of your team, to break down the many complexities that arise during the child bearing year. It also allows the Grandmother to become a grandmother and support her birthing daughter with the most important attribute she can offer…her love.

The bond that is created between myself and the birthing families that I support is very special to me. I am honored to be chosen to assist families in this life altering event, and having the role of a Doula to nurture and educate in my community is a responsibility that I am grateful to have.
